RANGELY I Twenty-three, two-man teams gathered at Cedar Ridges Golf Course in Rangely on Saturday to play in the 27-hole, two-man tournament where three different formats are used.

Softball All-Stars go to state, learn more than fast-pitch
RANGELY I The journey to a state championship may have been cut short for the Colorado River Valley All-Stars this season, but its lessons have already carried the players beyond the scope of fast-pitch softball.

The 2014 Coed Softball League, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Park District, started Monday with seven teams, including one from Rangely. Games will be played Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Paintbrush Park.

MEEKER I Deena Norell, 18, of Meeker, is featured in the July issue of Spin to Win Rodeo magazine in a featured article about breakaway roping titled “Whiz Kids.“ In addition, she will be competing in the National High School Finals Rodeo this week.

RANGELY I The Rangely Hurricanes swim team entered 19 swimmers in the Western Slope Championships held at the El Pomar Natatorium on the Colorado Mesa University campus in Grand Junction.

RANGELY I Clark Edwards shot a three-under-par 69 to win the championship flight of the Rangely Open, a stroke-play tournament held Saturday at Cedar Ridges Golf Course, where 35 golfers played in three competitive flights.
