Letter to the Editor: MHS softball team practicing, needs community help
Dear Editor: On Aug. 11, Meeker High School welcomed 17 young ladies to the first practice of the Lady Cowboys’ softball team. The young women arrived with anxiety and excitement at the opportunity to help build another solid program for the Meeker athletic department.
RHS Golf Team…
The Rangely High School golf team has already played in three tournaments, including one at Redlands Mesa in Fruita and in Rifle on Wednesday.
Coach’s team captures golf classic; Cowboy gridders play host to Rye
MEEKER I The Meeker High School football team had two-a-days last week, then Saturday it hosted the 10th annual Cowboy Kickoff Classic golf tournament. This Saturday it will host Rye in Starbuck Stadium in the first football game of the season.
Friday Night Lights…
The lights will be on at Yeager Field this Friday, when the Rangely High School Panthers host the Del Norte Tigers. Head coach Paul Fortunato is excited about the season.
Rangely Hurricane swimmers finish second in Cortez meet
RANGELY I The Rangely Hurricanes swim team finished its season by competing at the annual Colorado Seasonal Club State Championships in Cortez, a meet the team has won for the past six years.
Elams play well in couples golf
MEEKER I The annual couples golf tournament was played at the Meeker Golf Course last weekend, with a field of 20 teams from three states representing several regional courses.
Volleyball begins…
Although the Rangely High School volleyball team does not have a match scheduled until the end of August, the team started practice Monday, a week before the start of the school year.

Local baseball coach Brian Merrifield, who plays coed softball on the Ripped Shorts team, is pictured making contact for an RBI against defending champions Ace Trucking in one of the final games of the regular season. RANGELY I Eighteen couples, including many from other Western Slope towns and Vernal, Utah, played in the annual Couples Classic on Cedar Ridges Golf Course last weekend, and Rangely couples were well represented in the two-day event.
Rangely sports begin Monday
RANGELY I The first bell signaling the start of the 2014 school year has yet to ring, but the Rangely High School golf team has already started practice and will open its season today in Grand Valley.
