Rangely’s Travis Witherell, top, and Devon Rose were named to the Class 2A All-Colorado team by the Denver Post. Witherell, who was the state champion at 152 pounds was a first-teamer, while Rose, the state runner-up at 130 pounds, was second team.

LeBlanc takes fourth at NCAA tournament
MEEKER I Former Meeker High School wrestler and state champion Joe LeBlanc won his first three matches in the NCAA Division I championships, advancing to the semifinal match in the 184-pound bracket, guaranteeing the redshirt Wyoming Cowboy sophomore All-American status for a second year in a row.
Rangely places 7 at Meeker dual meet
RANGELY I Individually, the Panthers wrestled well, with seven placers at last Saturday’s tournament in Meeker. Team-wise, though, Rangely didn’t have the numbers, which has been the case all season.
Barone wrestlers take tourney title
MEEKER I Barone Middle School wrestlers performed in front of a hometown crowd last Saturday, winning three dual meets and advancing 11 wrestlers into the championship round. The Cowboys defeated Hayden, Rangely and Craig in dual meets, then crowned seven individual champions.

Area players receive postseason honors
MEEKER | Stacey Fitzgibbons, a senior at Meeker High School was recently honored by being selected to play in two all-state basketball games. “It shows what kind of athlete she is and how hard she works,” Meeker girls’ basketball coach Hallie Blunt said of Fitzgibbons’ post-season honors.

MEEKER I After a dual meet victory last Thursday, the Barone Middle School wrestlers finished second in a tournament last Saturday at Soroco. “We beat Rangely 43-23 but we didn’t wrestle well,” BMS head coach Lee Overton said of the March 11 dual with the Panthers.

MEEKER I The mascot for Standley Lake High School in Denver is the “Gator” and its gymnasium, known as “The Swamp,” is where the basketball season for the Lady Cowboys came to an end last Friday.
Young Panthers 4th at Hayden
RANGELY I Coaches are always looking for improvement, and Derek Stolworthy liked what he saw. “We did extremely well. We had 10 placers and even though we were among the smallest schools there, we took fourth out of nine teams,” said the Rangely Junior High wrestling coach.
