RANGELY I When the week began, a split of its games wasn’t what the Lady Panthers had in mind. But that’s how the week went.

RANGELY I So much for a tuneup before regionals. Tuesday’s dual against top-ranked Altamont, Utah, was canceled. So next up for Rangely’s wrestling team is the regional tournament Feb. 12-13 in Palisade.

RANGELY I Several players felt kind of puny last week, as a flu bug spread through the team. Rangely dropped two games — 55-49 to Vail Christian last Friday and 56-41 to Hayden last Saturday.

Rangely girls go 2-1 on the week
RANGELY I The Lady Panthers were kind of stuck last week. Stuck on 52, anyway. In its first of three games last week, Rangely scored almost 52 points in a 51-48 win Jan. 19 over Moffat County’s junior varsity in a non-league game.
Lady Panthers lose twice
RANGELY I After going 3-0 in games the week prior, the Lady Panthers went the other direction last week. Rangely lost a close one to Duchesne, Utah, 51-49, on Jan. 12 and then fell to state-ranked and league-favorite Paonia 56-43 last Friday.
Rangely defeats Paonia
RANGELY I Statistically, the Panthers came out on the short end, except in the one stat that really matters — the final score. Despite being outrebounded 40-25 and having 15 fewer assists, Rangely won another league game Friday, beating Paonia 68-64.

Hats off to Coach Jeff LeBleu and the wrestling team for their outstanding performance on the mat and off. From Friday at 5 p.m. until Saturday at 9 p.m. they were a top-notch program.
Panthers win tourney for third year
RANGELY I Panther pride was alive and well last weekend. The Panthers won their own 17-team invitational wrestling tournament Saturday, and the night before, they won a triangular with Coal Ridge and Hayden.
Panthers end skid with Soroco win
RBC I The Panthers ended the week on a positive note. After losing its first two games following the Christmas break, Rangely’s boys’ basketball team beat Soroco 66-47 Saturday to end a four-game losing streak and earn its first league win.
