It’s been almost two years since Gene Scritchfield died. His memory, however, lives on. And it always will. As someone wrote to Gene’s wife, Ann Marie, after his death, “Gene’s presence will be felt in those mountains forever.”

Awareness of domestic violence is a year-round effort
Officially, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. For Sandy McKelvey and other volunteers who are involved with Rangely Victim Services, Domestic Violence Awareness Month is every month. Making people aware of domestic violence — and that help is available — is an ongoing, year-round effort.
Alaska hunting trip photo in poor taste
I wanted to make a comment about the picture and the short article you had in your paper about Steve Kraft and his caribou hunting trip. Because of some of Mr. Kraft’s decisions concerning school budget cuts and among other decisions he has made, there are a lot of good[Read More…]
Completion of new church means demolition of old
As the finishing touches are being put on the new United Methodist Church in Meeker, the church’s 100-plus-year-old sanctuary will soon be torn down. Despite efforts to find a new home for the old church, there were no takers.

Letter: Ballot measures would harm county
I have concerns with Amendments 60, 61, and Proposition 101 on the Nov. 2 ballot. Proponents state these proposals would help citizens control the size of government, but I see them negating the outcomes of our local elections and reducing local control.
Pair of county golfers hope to make game a career
Golf in northwest Colorado — at least for the season — will be coming to an end soon. But for two golfers from Rio Blanco County, the sport is more than a seasonal game. It will hopefully be a career.
