Loose Ends: Monuments to things that matter

One can count the number of monuments in the White River Valley on one hand — unless the various and sundry bronzes honoring cultural traditions count. The two large blocks of granite honoring the soldiers and warriors at Milk Creek honors the memory of both groups.

MEEKER | The first meeting of the 4-H Beef Club was held Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Lisa Walsh called the meeting to order. We elected officers: President is Morgan Neilson.

County pulls out of talks on old school

MEEKER I The county has apparently determined the site of the old Meeker Elementary School building is not “suitable” for its needs.

Ice Fishing Derby at Lake Avery Saturday

MEEKER I The ERBM Recreation and Park District is sponsoring a free Family Ice Fishing Derby at Lake Avery on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those wishing to ride the bus to the lake should be at the Meeker Recreation Center by 8:30 a.m.

In basic training

MEEKER I Jon Burnell, son of Jody (and Caleb) Gardner and Sam Burnell, all formerly of Meeker, has entered into basic training for the U.S. Army in Fort Sill, Okla. He will graduate in March.
