The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago • Enterprising Al Strehlke of the City Drug Store held his annual ice cream and fountain opening Saturday, and in spite of unfavorable weather it was a pronounced success.

Meeker’s long-standing fast food provider has closed its doors. To the dismay of residents and visitors alike, Clark’s Big Burger on Market Street is no longer. Meekerites will miss the burgers, fries, jalapeno poppers, shakes and soft-serve ice cream.

Is it any coincidence Tax Day and National Stress Awareness Month are both in April? Lots of Americans are coming up short-handed when they finish their income taxes this year. Blame it on the Making Work Pay Credit, a provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

We can stop griping about the snow and cold now, and start griping about the mud. It’s healthy to change your topic of grumbling seasonally, in order to keep your complaints fresh. There’s nothing worse than stale complaining.
